What We Do
The Bi History Project exists to celebrate, preserve, and promote the history of the bisexual+ community. Through a range of initiatives – including workshops, training, and consultancy – we work with heritage professionals, community groups, and organisations to ensure that bisexual+ stories are recognised, included, and valued.
Founded and led by Mel Reeve, the Bi History Project bridges gaps in LGBTQ+ heritage by centring the often-overlooked experiences of bisexual+ people. Mel is a writer and experienced archivist based in Glasgow, with an MSc in Information Management and Preservation from the University of Glasgow and over seven years of experience in the heritage sector.
You can book the Bi History Project for events, lectures, training, and consultancy.
Meet the Founder: Mel Reeve
While working with LGBTQ+ history collections in archives and heritage, Mel kept coming back to one question: Where are all the bisexual+ people?

Determined to uncover and share these hidden histories, she began posting her research on Instagram. The response was immediate and there was a clear demand for more visibility and representation of bisexual+ voices in heritage.
Mel has contributed to a wide range of archive and heritage projects, including Stride with Pride: An LGBTQ+ Heritage Trail and Unlocking Our Sound Heritage. In 2021, her work with the Bi History project was nominated for Somewhere For Us Edinburgh’s ‘Unicorn Family’, which celebrates individuals making Scotland a more inclusive place.
In addition to her archival work, Mel co-runs foma press, a zine distro. Mel Reeve’s writing and archival work has received wide recognition, including:
Winner of the Glasgow Women’s Library Bold Types Prize (2020, winner of the Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival Writing Awards Grand Jury Prize (2024), shortlisted for the Alpine Fellowship Writing Prize (2024), shortlisted for the Scottish Wildlife Trust’s Words of the Wild Competition (2024), shortlisted for the Creative Future Writer’s Award (2023)
